Separation lighting and Rim lighting 

Task 1 - Produce a Rembrandt light head and shoulders portrait with a subtly lit background. Use a grid and a coloured gel to light the background.

We had the light set up on Georgina's right our left, high up. Her body is facing the light and her head is facing the camera. Rembrandt lighting technique is having a triangle on the opposite cheek to light source. (eg. light on right side - triangle on left cheek) The background light source had a grid on it and had a purple coloured gel attached to a clip that was 30cms away from the light so it wouldn't get to close to the heat of the light that was lighting up the background.

Task 2 - Produce a Hollywood lighting portrait with rim light as the separation lighting

We have the soft box directly in front of Georgina. The Camera right below the light. Georgina is sitting on a stool facing the camera. The light that is set up in front of her is to produce a Hollywood Lighting. The light behind her head is to produce Rim lighting which makes a slight lit rim around her shoulders and head. 

Task 3: Using one light and a reflector, produce a loupe lighting portrait with a 8:1 lighting ratio. Then reshoot the portrait with a 2:1lighting ratio. shoot the portrait with short lighting.

8:1 ratio photo. Short lighting. Soft box light is on the right of Georgina. Using the light meter had to work out the 8:1 ratio. Took us a while but after moving the light and the subject a couple of times, we finally got it.
